Mom Issues Warning After 10-Year-Old Son Collapses After Playing In The Ocean

Nothing beats a beach day for cooling off from the scorching heat, but a Massachusetts mom discovered the hard way that the shore has its own set of risks.

She now wants to warn others.

Heather Cassini admits she’s still shaken by the incident, even though it happened more than a week ago.

While enjoying a day at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire with her family on July 4, Cassini, 40, was caught off guard when her 10-year-old son Declan suddenly complained of not feeling well.

Initially, Cassini wasn’t too concerned. The sun was blazing, and Declan had been playing in the sea.

In a widely shared Facebook post, Cassini mentioned she thought the breakfast might have been too heavy for the waves and that he just needed to rest. However, as they began heading back for Declan to rest, he suddenly became disoriented and fell onto a sunbather.

He managed to get back on his feet, only to stumble and fall again.

“I’m expecting a baby and desperately trying to lift him,” Cassini shared with Today.com. “He was drifting in and out of consciousness, vomiting, and looked so pale.”

A group of nearby women sprang into action upon seeing the commotion. Paramedics quickly assessed his vitals and focused on maintaining his consciousness and body temperature.

Expressing her gratitude, she said, “God bless everyone around us. We were surrounded by countless nurses.”

Cassini wrote, “It felt like forever before he finally got up and started talking. We waited patiently for him to recover before helping him to the car.”

Declan was found to have hypothermia due to the 52-degree ocean water.

Cassini was shocked, “I never imagined this could happen. You always think about sunburns and dehydration at the beach, but cold shock never crossed my mind.”

Now that Declan has made a full recovery, Cassini is eager to warn everyone about the risks of hypothermia during the summer.

Parents of water-loving, seemingly invincible kids: don’t assume they can handle everything. Keep a close eye on them!

It’s surprising to learn you can still get hypothermia on a scorching summer day! This is an important message for everyone, not just parents.
