Tony Knight, a comedian and 'dog listener,' tragically passed away in a freak accident. The British comic, who had been living in Australia, died in June while attending the Rock ‘n’ Cars Festival in Lavaur, France.
“He was only 54 and was having the time of his life,” a family member told Fox Digital News. “He was fit, healthy, happy, and had everything going for him. He was charismatic, funny, passionate, and deeply loved by [his partner] Hayley, his family, and friends around the world.”
French media reported that Tony was the only person injured when a large tree branch fell on him and five others. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries. Local authorities are investigating the incident that led to his death.
Fans of the comedian expressed their condolences on social media. One person wrote on Facebook, "Disturbing news regarding Tony Knight. Tragic incidents like this are hard to comprehend. It’s important to remember the joy and laughter he brought to so many people." Another added, "It’s shocking that you never know when or how you’ll spend your last day on earth. Truly mind-boggling. Unusual incidents. May your soul rest peacefully. My heartfelt sympathies to your friends and family."
Tony’s longtime partner, Hayley Wright, created a GoFundMe page in his memory to help cover funeral and hospital expenses. By July 5, the fundraiser had raised over $8,000 of its $20,000 goal.
Tony was preparing for a UK comedy tour in the months leading up to his death. He was also known for his passion for dogs and referred to himself as a "dog listener" on his website. Hayley's sister mentioned on the GoFundMe page that Tony "helped people all over the world" learn new ways to communicate with their pets.
The comedian was set to perform a series of shows in the UK titled "Mad Dogs and an Englishman," including an appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show was promoted as "The world’s first-ever comedy show about dog behavior. Stand up (and sit)."
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his grieving family. May he rest in peace.
