Ellen DeGeneres Announces Retirement from Stand-Up Comedy
Ellen DeGeneres, the beloved comedian known for captivating audiences for years, has announced her retirement from stand-up comedy. She revealed that her current tour, “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up,” will be her final one.
During a performance in Santa Rosa, California, Ellen informed the audience that this would be her last tour. When asked about potential future appearances on platforms like Broadway or in movies, she candidly replied, “No, this is the last time you’ll see me. After my Netflix special, set to air at the end of 2024, I’m done.”
Ellen has canceled several upcoming shows, including dates in Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle, and Chicago. While she has not yet addressed the cancellations directly, she expressed her gratitude to her fans, humorously adding, “Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me. I got chickens.”
In light of recent controversies, the 66-year-old comedian made a light-hearted comment, saying, “Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean,” referencing the allegations against her. She then joked about potentially being “kicked out for being old.”
Despite these challenges, Ellen firmly rejected the notion of being mean, asserting, “I am many things, but I am not mean.” She reflected on her changing public image, noting, “I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now, I realize I said that during the height of my popularity.”
Even with the hurdles, Ellen remains appreciative of her loyal fans. Let's celebrate her remarkable career and the joy she has brought into our lives.
