Apple’s iPhone Users Are Justifiably Concerned By The New Meaning Of The Orange Dot On Their Screens

If you're busy doing something on your iPhone and notice an orange dot on the screen, it's a good idea to pay attention.

Given the wide range of functions that mobile devices offer, it's practical to provide users with tools to understand features that are both unfamiliar and essential.

This orange dot acts as an alert, though its importance can vary depending on the situation—it might be harmless or signify something more.

To clarify, an orange dot at the top of your screen means an app on your iPhone is actively using the microphone, recording sound.

A green dot in the same spot means an app is accessing your phone’s camera instead of the microphone.

For instance, when I open the camera on my phone, a green dot appears, briefly turning orange before disappearing once I exit the app.

This feature is simply my phone’s way of letting me know both the lens and microphone are in use when I’m using the camera, though it's also wise to be aware of other apps running in the background.
