Patsy, a sweet little pup Donna had raised since she was a tiny newborn, holds a special place in her heart. From bottle-feeding her as a baby to providing endless love and care, Donna has treated Patsy like family. “She’s had this dog forever,” Shelbey shared with Inside Edition. “This dog is her baby. She was small enough to fit in the palm of her hand.”

With Patsy being such a vital part of Donna’s life, Shelbey knew her plan would bring comfort and joy. However, there was one problem: pets weren’t allowed in the hospital without prior approval, and there wasn’t time to secure permission.
Not one to back down, Shelbey devised a clever workaround. She wrapped Patsy in a blanket and carried her into the hospital, cleverly passing her off as a baby. The hospital staff didn’t question her at all.
“It was so spur-of-the-moment,” Shelbey explained. “I didn’t have time to go to the veterinarian’s office for permission. Honestly, the worst they could have done was tell me to leave.”
The moment Patsy entered the room, Donna’s mood shifted instantly. The surprise visit lifted her spirits, helping her feel more relaxed and happy.
“It made her a lot happier,” Shelbey said. “She wasn’t feeling well, but having Patsy there really comforted her. She even got to go home the next day. Medically, Patsy didn’t cure her, but I think the visit had something to do with her recovery.”
Shelbey’s quick thinking and love for her grandma turned a challenging moment into a heartwarming story.
