With Tears in Their eEyes, Jase And Missy Robertson Make The Heartbreaking Announcement

Mia Robertson, the youngest daughter of Duck Dynasty stars Jase and Missy Robertson, was born with a cleft lip and palate—a condition where there is a gap in the upper lip that can also affect the gum. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around one in every 1,600 babies in the U.S. is born with a cleft lip and palate.

Now 18, Mia has undergone 13 surgeries to address her condition, with her 14th surgery happening just recently. Her family hopes this will be her final procedure to fully resolve her cleft-related challenges.

Mia has shown resilience through each surgery, remaining optimistic and hopeful. She aims to inspire other children facing similar conditions. With support from her family, Mia established the Mia Moo Fund to help children with clefts by covering medical expenses and raising awareness.

“One of the functions of the Mia Moo Fund is to spread awareness of the cleft lip and palate journey,” Missy Robertson shared with the Christian Post. “The other is to help with medical funds for families across the U.S.”

Jase Robertson gave an update on Mia's recovery on his podcast Unashamed. “She’s doing great. She’s turned a corner,” he said, adding, “Everything seems fine.”

“Surgery took a bit longer than we anticipated, but she is home and recovering,” Jase told listeners. “Thank you for praying for her and our family. She’s a champion!”

Before the surgery, Missy spoke about Mia’s journey and shared that people frequently ask how many surgeries her daughter might still need. “The only answer we can give is, ‘We just don’t know,’” she said. Missy added that the family relies on faith through these uncertain times. “Since Mia is now 18, she’s taking the lead on all discussions and medical paperwork. It feels a bit strange,” she noted, “but it’s a reminder to lean on the Lord and recognize that I’m not in control.”

Mia also expressed hope that this surgery will be her last. “Hopefully, this is the final time I’ll see my doctors in this setting! It’s been a long journey, but I think we’re at the finish line,” Mia said.

The Robertson family has also faced loss in the past. In 2002, Missy experienced a miscarriage, losing a child between eight and ten weeks into pregnancy, a tragedy that left a lasting impact on the family. Mia was born soon afterward, bringing them renewed joy and hope.

Now, the Robertsons are preparing to open their home to a new family member, a child whose biological mother is unable to care for them. This addition reflects their commitment to family and care for others.

We wish Mia a speedy recovery and all the best to the Robertson family.
