Nearly four years have passed since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal roles, yet the public remains intrigued by their decision. The couple has consistently pointed to their desire to escape the intense media scrutiny as a primary reason for their departure.
This reasoning, however, has been met with skepticism by some, as Harry and Meghan continue to maintain a high-profile presence through interviews, book releases, and engagements that bear similarities to traditional royal duties.

Despite their media visibility, the couple has taken deliberate steps to shield their children from the public eye.
Harry’s strained relationship with the media is well-documented. He has often expressed his belief that the relentless paparazzi pursuit of his mother, Princess Diana, played a role in her tragic death.

When their son, Archie, was born, Harry was hesitant to share details about the event. However, he eventually adhered to royal tradition by introducing Archie to the public outside Portland Hospital in London. At the time, the couple issued a statement: “Today, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to share their first public moment as a family.”
Since then, only a limited number of photos of Archie have been released. The same approach has been applied to their daughter, Lilibet, who was born in the United States.
This changed with the release of the couple’s six-part Netflix documentary, which provided an intimate look at their family life in Montecito, California—a home described as having “Fort Knox”-level security. The series included rare footage of Archie and Lilibet, offering fans a closer glimpse into the lives of the young royals.

In June 2022, Lilibet’s first birthday was celebrated with a small picnic at Frogmore Cottage, the Sussexes’ former UK residence. Photos from the event were shared on social media, delighting royal watchers.
Public appearances of Archie and Lilibet have otherwise been rare—until recently. In December 2024, the family’s Christmas card featured six personal photos, including one that gave a rare glimpse of Archie and Lilibet.
Notably, many observed Lilibet’s striking auburn hair.
The festive card also showcased the family’s three cherished dogs—Guy, Pula, and Momma Mia—as well as moments from their travels to Nigeria and Colombia.
